We shared in the group today about how we tried different methods to control how much we drank. As always, I was brought back to my drinking patterns when I would try to control my drinking such as:
- I thought that if I drank 3 or 4 days a week instead of just 2 or 3 days – that I wouldn’t drink as much during each episode – worked for awhile, then I started drinking more, little by little each time I drank until I was drinking just as much each time – every time.
- I tried buying everything I was going to drink in an evening before I got home including the meal I would prepare that night. That didn’t work either for when I got drunk – I would think, “nobody tells me what to do or not do, to hell with them”.
- I tried drinking before I went out to bars – mostly to save myself the embarrassment of going back to the bar so frequently.
- I tried changing the places at which I drank – didn’t work for long.
- I tried changing those who a drank with – that didn’t work either.
