We admitted that we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable.
This step requires a certain amount of honesty. How much honesty? One must be thoroughly honest – that is, honest enough to smash all the illusions that for so long, helped me to conclude that the reasons I continue to drink were those such as, “I choose to drink because I enjoy drinking”; “I work hard and play hard”; “If you had the things in your life that I’ve experienced in mine, you would drink like I drink”; I drink because I can handle it and I enjoy the lifestyle…”
The illusion of gradeur go on and on. These illusions prevent us from seeing the truth about ourselves in the 1st step.
